6TH ANNUAL EID-UL-FITR CELEBRATIONS - DECEMBER 13, 2002

Honourable R. Roy McMurtry, the Chief Justice of Ontario, was the Keynote Speaker and Award Recipient.  He was recognized for  "HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER IN PUBLIC SERVICE WITH EXCEPTIONAL DEDICATION TO JUSTICE AND EQUALITY FOR ALL CANADIANS, HIS COURAGEOUS STAND ON HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES, AND HIS UNDERSTANDING AND FRIENDSHIP FOR MUSLIMS, PARTICULARLY CANADIAN MUSLIMS."

The Honourable Bill Davis, former Premier of Ontario, came to personally congratulate the Chief Justice.  Many lawyers attended this event, including Honourable Charles Dubin, former Chief Justice of Ontario and Honourable Lauren Marshall, Regional Senior Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice.

The Honourable Janet Ecker, Minister of Finance, was the Master of Ceremonies, as she has been for the past 5 years.  The Honourable Frank Klees, Minister of Tourism, Members of Parliament, Dan McTeague, Derek Lee, Rahim Jaffer, and Members of Provincial Parliament, Gerry Phillips, Michael Prue also attended.  

The Most Reverend Terence Finlay, Archbishop of Toronto, said Grace before dinner.  The Minister of Citizenship, the Honourable Carl De Faria was the Guest of Honour.  His Excellency, Dr. Mohammad A. Mousavi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mrs. Mousavi and the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Geethangani De Silva came  from Ottawa to attend this event.
